We talk a lot about focus in photography. Is this in focus? Do I want it to be sharp or a tad soft? Am I mentally focused on the task at hand? Am I paying attention to the entire frame? The Great Henry Cartier- Bresson, while working for the prestigious Magnum Photography as an editor & contributing shooter, used to critique everyone's negatives, contact sheets & images by looking at them upside down, sideways, & at every angle in between! If the frame was shot a microsecond too soon or too late it was discarded. It had to be compositionally precise.
This image was taken along a side street which enters downtown Boston. There's a tiny convenience store that sells a tremendous amount of Mass State Lottery Tickets. I saw these 2 chaps ensconced in their dream to win the Big One! I was literally 3 feet in front of them, taking my time & setting up for many shots that went unnoticed by my subjects. All 3 of us were so focused at what we were doing that no one noticed each other! It's all about Focus. :- )
